It has been nearly 1 year and two months since ChatGPT entered the real world, and so much has happened in so short of a timeframe. The opening of ChatGPT, people finding out how useful it is, some students cheating on assignments with it, the drama of Sam Altman and so much more. In this article, I will be discussing 3 ways that ChatGPT has changed the world, both for the good and for the bad
- Teachers and Staff have to level up.
As ChatGPT got more famous, students who were previously struggling with their assignments were passing with flying colours. Coincidence? I think not. Students had discovered the magic of Chat GPT All they did was enter the assignment they were given in ChatGPT (for example if they had to write a 2000-word essay on France) and then they would copy-paste the result they got from ChatGPT onto their assignment page, making it look like they wrote the whole thing. Not only were students passing with flying colours, but the language also that people had in their assignments was eerily high level, looking like the language a Ph.D. student would write and that eventually sussed teachers out. With the implication of ChatGPT, teachers had to crack down on cheaters, some by using machines that detected if ChatGPT was used, others by studying students’ normal language versus their ‘A grade’ assignment language, and others simply by catching students in the act. Also, teachers started to tell students that ChatGPT shouldn’t be used. In my class in 2023, this one kid used Chat GPT and cheated, so all the students had to be lectured on the importance of using your work, and even when you use ChatGPT, citing it.
- Helping us immensely
Although my last paragraph might have portrayed ChatGPT as a useless machine, in some cases, it can be useful. ChatGPT can be asked for various tips, some of which include – giving ideas to write about, helping newbies learn about how to do a task (some of which include how to upload a blog to your website, rules of basketball, how to cook lasagne, etc) helping people to choose between two decisions, and many more things. ChatGPT gives you real evidence to make you confident in your decision. Also, ChatGPT can help people make quick, enjoyable dishes, or even make a logo for your small business. So, from this point, I have displayed that ChatGPT isn’t all gloom and doom, and in fact, can help you with various things.
- Taking over the world?
The last way that ChatGPT has changed the world is by making us, humans think that robots taking over the world might be possible. It’s only 2024, and you can see how advanced technology already is – it can write an A+ grade 1000 essay in 30 seconds and do multi-step calculations with a click of a finger just to name a few. Some experts think that by 2050, people will create technology that will be able to solve calculations that none of mankind has been able to solve before. May I remind you, that is in less than 26 years. Although some technology could be used for good, like solving world hunger or fighting droughts, it can also be used for various things, like terrorist attacks, capturing the world, and making humans slaves. These ideas may seem like fantasy, but they could happen.
Thank you, guys, for reading this blog. I may admit I exaggerated a bit in the last point, and the ‘world takeovers’ could only happen if technology falls into the wrong hands.
