In primary school, when the workload is small, a lot of us tend to have a very good sleep. However, in high school, the story is completely different, with assignments and tasks from every other subject teacher, students get the bare minimum or often wise below the recommended amount of sleep. Sleep is related directly to student’s mindset, attitude, grades strength. So, why is sleep important?
Sleep is arguably the most important thing that helps us feel active and energised. When we get sleep, we rest our body so that all of the organs are ready for the next day, and also so that important functions in the body such as memory storage can happen. In general sleep is important because it helps us do everything. The first reason for this statement is obvious: sleep gets us rest which makes fresh in the morning. This makes our brain sharp and ready to answer critical questions and do work our brain normally finds hard. This is because when we are awake, a chemical called Adenosine builds up inside our brain. Adenosine makes us feel tired and sluggish. The more we stay awake for, our brain gets more and more adenosine. However, when we sleep, the Adenosine goes away from our brain which makes us fresh. This is also why people say to tackle hard things in the morning. Another reason why sleep helps in everything is because it helps us remembers things. This is because during sleep, our brain stores our memory in ‘files’ of our brain. This makes us have a better memory because the memory/fact is in our brain and we can access it. However, when we don’t sleep, or sleep under the minimum sleep time, your body does not have the time to do that process of storing. This means that you do not remember that many things, and it can downgrade your performance in things like exams because you wouldn’t remember that information.
