In life, having a positive attitude is one of the most important steps to success. Having a positive attitude is being persistent, going into every task with a good mindset, inspiring others to do their best, focusing on good things, sharing positivity, and many other things. But why is having a positive attitude necessary to success? Having a positive attitude helps you think of life in a good way, and accept life for how it is. If you don’t accept life for how it is, you will stay and never move on from your problems:- you will stay sulking, waiting for your problems to magically disappear. Another way a positive attitude can help you succeed is because your brain will always be sending you positive messages. For lots of people, their brains spew out negative and hateful comments. However, once you adopt a positive mindset, your brain will feed you positive messages like ‘keep on going’ ‘never give up’ and ‘you can do anything, just put your mind to it’. These comments will help you believe that you can do anything – and these comments can be critical to success.
How to deal with Negative Emotions
Before we get on to the section on adopting a positive attitude, we need to get into how to deal with negative emotions. If not from other people, you get lots of negative emotions from your brain. There is also a quote that says ‘your brain is your greatest enemy’. But why would your brain, one of the most powerful things in your body say that? Because you have trained it to say that. In people’s early years, when they make a mistake, instead of acknowledging it, they say that they made a mistake and they are incorrect. This makes your brain think that every single error you make is bad and you are a failure. So how do you train your brain to think positively? Well, when you receive a negative comment, you first need to block the comment. By doing that you are accepting that what the brain said is incorrect. After you do that, you need to motivate yourself, as after many people get a bad comment, they feel sad. By motivating yourself, you are telling that you are the best and giving positive messages to your brain. That way, over time, your brain will switch from a negative mindset to a positive one. Now here are three tips to have a positive attitude.
- Focus on good things
‘The silver lining’ is a quote to describe focusing on little things that are good when something goes on. For example, when you did not do so well in a basketball game and your team lost, the silver lining could be you still scored some points and did a good job of passing the ball. Another example is if you didn’t get the marks you wanted on a maths test, you can focus on the silver lining and say at least I got one of the hardest questions correct. By focusing on good things when the situation is not always good, you tell your brain that you still did a very good job, and even though you can improve next time, you still have something to be happy and celebrate about.
2. Never give up
Never giving up is the pinnacle of having a positive attitude. It shows that no matter what situation you are in, you always think positively about what is going to happen. One real example is Rafael Nadal. In the 2022 Australian Open final, he needed 3 sets to win, however, he was down 2 sets to zero. His opponent only needed 1 set to win. People predicted that he had a 0.2% chance of winning the game. Yet, he showed persistence, grit, and a positive attitude and he ended up winning the game. Therefore, Rafael Nadal showed how powerful his positive attitude was by getting an insane comeback.
3. Gratitude
By showing gratitude, you also have a positive attitude. Gratitude is the act of being thankful for what you receive whether little or big. By showing gratitude you are thankful and therefore showing a positive attitude as you are showing that you will always be pleased no matter how little you receive. You are happy and that is what counts.
Therefore, these are three ways to have a positive attitude and also how to ignore negative things. These will be pivotal in your current life. Remember – Stay Positive!
